Today at 18:00 on Triumfalnaya square in Moscow, by the monument to poet Mayakovsky, a traditional recital of poems will take place. This tradition first came into being in 1958 with the opening of the monument and lasted until 1961, when it was terminated for several reasons, including political ones. The oak grove in the Levoberezhny district of Khimki (a Moscow suburb) is being surrounded with concrete fence by an unidentified company, who is going to cut down trees and build an elite housing complex on that place without required permits. On 2 August the riot police brutally detained defenders of the Khimki forest, who had gathered on a field near the forest. My translation of an article, which appeared in Global Post yesterday (see the original below), about the case of the Russian activist Yulia Privedennaya, who risks 4.5 years of imprisonment for her work in a group, which develops a theory of happiness. Today Privedennaya has been found guilty and convicted to a conditional term of 4.5 years.
